John Knight gained a BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design before embarking on a career in advertising, marketing, brand licensing and intellectual property. He is a serial entrepreneur, having established and built several companies from scratch.
John has been instrumental in building and disposing of 4 of his own small businesses over the past 30 years:
- Advertising agency built turnover to £4m within 5 years, sold to a client for £1.5m (10x net profit)
- Branded goods business grown from scratch to £3m turnover within 3 years, sold to large competitor for £650k (one year’s gross profit plus ‘earn out’)
- Intellectual property brand launched in 2004 on a budget of £5k and sold to licensee during 2008 for £1.2m (based on 3 years’ projected royalty payments)
- Greeting cards publishing business sold to large synergistic business for £50k (one year’s gross profit plus SAV)
Throughout his career John has dealt with (and negotiated with) a diverse range of blue chip clients at senior management and director levels, including: Cadbury’s, Bentley Motors, BAT, Balfour Beatty, Bovis, BT, Emma Bridgewater, Foseco International, Glynwed, Hanson, Jan Constantine, John Partridge Country Clothing, JLG, Lotus Cars, Marley Group, Mitie Group, Motorola, Prudential, Tarmac & Terex.
